Me and My "FRAKA"

My house is in Trivandrum near a pond, which is one of the biggest pond(14 acers) in Kerala where during onam season we conduct boat races. It's name is "Sreevarahom Pond".During 1994 the pond became so impure that we decided to clean. So a team was formed with Reserved police force(RPF),Politicians, locals and other volunteer associations.Myself too took part in this big venture.I was standing somewhat near the steps. There were plenty of fishes in the mud, fighting for the survival.suddenly I saw an Indian kite swifting to lift a fish, but it couldn't lift b'z of the mud.It fell down there.I jumped in to the mud and lifted the kite.It was totaly covered with mud and couldn't breath.I rushed to my house with the kite and put it under a tap and washed with plenty of water and soap. Then I put it inside my room under a ceiling fan. After some time when i entered the room I found him sitting in my lindle with feathers all dried up.oh ! what a grace?.but it was unable to take any food.I minced the meat and gave him in reflex.then he was able to eat.Again he was unable to lift his wings(b'z of fall) after some days he was ok and identified me when ever I entered the room .soon he tried to fly.so I kept him ouside my house .but he flew up and came back and try to sit on my head. Then I made a good seat for him using a tree branch and some chains. Then he became good friend of mine and I called him FRAKA(name of Phantom's eagle).he used to sit on my hands, using a glouse(his nails r sharp). If strangers come to our house he will make a different sound like 'krrrrrrrri".when I call his name he will come and sit on my hands. One day I took him to Intermedical festival which took place in Alleppy medical college where I wore became an Arab with fraka on my hands.Lot of Objection came from SPCA for keeping fraka.I invited them to see how it is kept in my house. They were happy at the situation and they congratulated me for saving its life.Soon he got a girl friend and he used to roam with her and his visit to my house became less frequent.I hope he is having a good family and he is living with his children somewhere near the pond.
That is the story of Fraka-a loving friend of mine

HOOCH TRAGEDY

September12th 2000 I took duty in Toxicology lab .I went home to pick some night dresses and came back by evening 5.30pm.While I returned I found two -three persons standing in front of PG hostel holding some samples.I rushed to lab along with them.when I went through the case sheet I found suspected OP poisoning. On enquiry I suspect chances of methanol poisoning too.when tested methanol positive . Same time two more cases from the same place(kalluvathilkal, near kollam dist).Again I did the test God !it is all methanol positive .Then again ten more samples.I poured all ten in to test tubes and added reagents and waited for the result. {valla vithane athum cheythu.case positive thane.}Two of my friends rushed to me and informed about the HOOCH tragedy in kalluvathilkal. In that night till next morning we have done around 600 samples ,out of that 3/4 th were methanol positive and some OP positive.Next day it was a big galatta .lot of media coverage including leading news papers ,TV channels ,arguements, fight with chemical examiners lab, running for ethanol oh god we became real heroes.still when i write this my hair rising...30 people died and fifty became blind.still it is a haunting nightmare for me........
